Place and Date of Birth: Born in 1964 in Dezhou City of Shandong Province, China

Institution: China Agricultural University (CAU)

Position/Title: Professor, Director

Dr. DONG has spent more than 34 years in the education, research and technology extension on Bioenergy and Environment Science and Technology (BEST) since 1988. He leads the excellent research teams in both Beijing City and Shandong Province for BEST research with two more professors, 14 associate professors and 48postgraduates.

His research interests include: (1) BioEnergy: resource assessment, biogas, biomass combustion and stoves, environmental effects, by-bioproducts from bioenergy; standarization and certification of biogas and biomass combustion. (2) Living environment: indoor air quality, clean heating, constructed wetlands for organic wastewater treatment. (3) Ecological environment: agricultural and rural biowastes treatment and recycling, carbon neutral engineering, emission accounting, field soil improvement, and (4) Carbon neutralization: BioEnergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS), BioGas with carbon capture and sequestration (BGCCS). (5) Agricultural and renewable energy technplogy transfer: cooperation with Belt&Road countries, BRICS countries, and Shanghai Cooperation Organization countries, and countries all over the world.

He is the PI for more than 20 research and international cooperation projects from the ministries of Science and Technology, Agriculture, Environmental Protection, some provinces and municipal cities, as well as international organisations. He has

He has published more than 300 quality articles in international and domestic journals, including more than 86 publications in Scopus with h-index of 18 dominated by publications on anaerobic digestion. He holds more than 20 patents and five prizes from the government and the national academic associations.

Dr. DONG is very active for academic international collaborations with developed and developing countries. He has been the SAC member of German Bioenergy Research Center (DBFZ) since 2014, and assume as vice chair since 2021. He is the TC members of ISO 255 (biogas) and 285 (household stoves). He is the country representative in IEA Bioenergy Task 37 (biogas). He was the only non-African attendee of the AGRA governmental meeting and the only non-American speaker on US public and land grand universities conference in 2013. With extensive links with the outstanding scientists and industrial CEOs in the field of biogas and bioenergy in about 30 countries on the world, a platform for organic waste treatment and renewable resources recovery, named as Great Cycle, has been created since 2014; the network for Chinese agricultural universities to support Africa in agricultural development (AfriCAU) and for a south-south sustainable stove experts group to promote the clean stove in developing countries (S4G) have been created since 2005 and 2013 respectively. Dr. DONG is the coordinator for the three cooperation hubs, and has organized more than 30 international conference/seminar/programs.
